A 5.3 magnitude earthquake shook sparsely populated eastern Iran on Sunday, the state-run television said. No one was hurt or killed, according to the report. Ali Zadeh, governor of Ferdows, a town 700 kilometers (450 miles) southeast of Tehran, said the earthquake caused no casualties or damage since it shook an empty desert area. The quake hit at 9:16 a.m. local time (04:46 GMT).
