The Czech government agreed to step down on Wednesday and outgoing leftist Prime Minister Jiri Paroubek said he would officially hand in the resignation to President Vaclav Klaus later in the day. Paroubek had announced on Tuesday he was stepping aside, and Klaus said he would name right-wing leader Mirek Topolanek as prime minister at around 1400 GMT. Topolanek must try to find support in parliament for his minority government, a process he has said will be difficult. Parliament had been deadlocked since a June 2-3 election that gave the right and left-wing blocs the same number of seats in the lower house, according to a report of Reuters.
