Malaysian Foreign Minister Datuk Seri Syed Hamid Albar will head a delegation from the Organisation of the Islamic Conference (OIC) to Lebanon Tuesday. Among the delegation members are foreign ministers from Pakistan and Qatar, the Malaysian News Agency "Bernama" reported. Included in the itinerary is a meeting with Lebanese Prime Minister Fouad Siniora on the implementation of a seven-point plan agreed upon during the OIC special conference chaired by Malaysian Prime Minister Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi in Kuala Lumpur recently. "We will discuss the plan's implementation and several other matters with the Lebanese Prime Minister," Syed Hamid told reporters after attending a meeting between Abdullah and Johor Umno leaders here today. They would also discuss the latest developments in Lebanon including the ceasefire between Israeli troops and Hizbollah fighters that took effect today, he said. He said he would leave for Damascus, Syria, Tuesday on a Malaysia Airlines flight before heading for the Lebanese capital, Beirut, by road. The OIC delegation will also meet Syrian Foreign Minister Waled Moalem. Among the seven-point plan are the release of Lebanese and Israeli detainees, withdrawal of Israeli forces and permanent deployment of United Nations (UN) peacekeepers in southern Lebanon. OIC members that participated in the special conference that agreed on the seven-point plan were Azerbaijan, Bangladesh, Brunei, Egypt, Indonesia, Iran, Jordan, Lebanon, Malaysia, Palestine, Pakistan, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Senegal, Syria, Turkey, United Arab Emirates and Yemen. On the deployment of Malaysian troops to Lebanon under the UN flag, Syed Hamid said Malaysia was waiting for the official invitation from the world body.
