UNDERSECRETARY OF THE HIGHER EDUCATION MINISTRY FOR CULTURAL RELATIONS DR ABDULLAH AL-MIJAL SAID ON SUNDAY THAT THE MINISTRY HAS ADOPTED VERY ACCURATE STANDARDS AND SPECIFICATIONS FOR SELECTING STUDENTS ON SCHOLARSHIPS PROGRAM OF THE CUSTODIAN OF THE TWO HOLY MOSQUES KING ABDULLAH BIN ABDULAZIZ TO PURSUE THEIR ACADEMIC STUDIES IN THE US, EAST ASIAN COUNTRIES, AUSTRALIA AND NEW ZEALAND. HE NOTED THAT STUDENTS FOR THE PROGRAM'S SCHOLARSHIPS WERE SELECTED ACCORDING TO THEIR AGGREGATE SCORES IN THEIR QUALIFYING ACADEMIC EXAMINATIONS. "HOWEVER, THE NUMBER OF THE APPLICANTS FOR THE SCHOLARSHIPS PROGRAM HAD EXCEEDED 50,000, SELECTION, AS SUCH WAS BASED ON THE AGGREGATES," HE NOTED. DR AL-MIJAL SAID THE SCHOLARSHIPS PROGRAM WAS CONFINED TO CERTAIN SCIENTIFIC SPECIALIZATIONS WHICH CONFORM WITH THE REQUIREMENTS OF THE NATIONAL DEVELOPMENT AND THE LOCAL LABOR MARKET. HE POINTED OUT THAT THE PROGRAM HAS FOCUSED ON THE HIGHER STUDIES FOR MASTER, DOCTORATE AND FELLOWSHIP DEGREES.
