POLISH PRIME MINISTER KAZIMIERZ MARCINKIEWICZ AND HIS GOVERNMENT FORMALLY RESIGNED MONDAY, PAVING THE WAY FOR JAROSLAW KACZYNSKI _ THE PRESIDENT'S IDENTICAL TWIN BROTHER _ TO FORM A NEW GOVERNMENT LATER IN THE DAY. MARCINKIEWICZ RESIGNED IN A MEETING WITH PRESIDENT LECH KACZYNSKI AT THE PRESIDENTIAL PALACE TWO DAYS AFTER THE GOVERNING LAW AND JUSTICE PARTY DECIDED TO REPLACE HIM WITH PARTY CHAIRMAN JAROSLAW KACZYNSKI. THE PRESIDENT WILL APPOINT HIS TWIN IN A CEREMONY SLATED FOR MONDAY EVENING, SAID ANDRZEJ KRAWCZYK, THE PRESIDENT'S UNDERSECRETARY OF STATE. «I THANKED HIM FOR HIS VERY GOOD GOVERNING,» LECH KACZYNSKI SAID IN A BRIEF STATEMENT AFTER A 45-MINUTE MEETING WITH MARCINKIEWICZ AT THE PRESIDENTIAL PALACE. «I TOLD THE PRIME MINISTER HIS RESIGNATION WILL BE ACCEPTED,» THE PRESIDENT SAID. «I ASKED HIM TO FULFILL THE DUTIES OF THE PRIME MINISTER UNTIL THE APPOINTMENT OF THE NEW GOVERNMENT.»
