A DANISH MILITARY CONVOY FERRYING THE SCANDINAVIAN COUNTRY'S DEFENSE CHIEF CAME UNDER A ROADSIDE BOMB ATTACK IN NORTHEASTERN AFGHANISTAN ON FRIDAY, THE DANISH ARMY SAID. NO ONE WAS INJURED IN THE BLAST, AP REPORTED. THE FRIDAY MORNING EXPLOSION ONLY DAMAGED A LIGHTLY ARMORED VEHICLE AT THE FRONT OF THE CONVOY. THE ARMY CHIEF, GEN. HANS JESPER HELSOE, WAS VISITING A DANISH UNIT THAT IS PART OF A GERMAN-LED PROVINCIAL RECONSTRUCTION TEAM IN THE CITY OF FEYZABAD. FROM FEYZABAD, HELSOE TOLD DANISH PUBLIC RADIO THAT HE WAS IN THE SECOND VEHICLE WHEN THE BOMB EXPLODED. «I TOOK IT CALMLY. I FELT SAFE IN THE HANDS OF DANISH TROOPS,» HELSOE SAID. DENMARK'S 100 SOLDIERS ARE PART OF THE 12,000-STRONG NATO-LED FORCE, KNOWN AS THE INTERNATIONAL SECURITY ASSISTANCE FORCE, IN KABUL AND NORTHERN AFGHANISTAN. DENMARK IS DEPLOYING 260 TROOPS TO NATO'S EXPANDING PEACEKEEPING MISSION IN SOUTHERN AFGHANISTAN.
