AN AFRICAN UNION PEACEKEEPER HAS BEEN KILLED IN SUDAN'S STRIFE-TORN WESTERN DARFUR REGION, ALTHOUGH DETAILS OF THE ATTACK ARE STILL SKETCHY, AN AU SPOKESMAN SAID ON MONDAY. THE AFRICAN UNION HAS SOME 7,000 TROOPS PATROLLING THE REMOTE REGION, IN AN ATTEMPT TO MAINTAIN A SHAKY CEASEFIRE. "WE HAD ONE NIGERIAN SOLDIER WHO WAS KILLED IN EL GENEINA AREA," MOUSSA HAMANI TOLD DPA. HAMANI CONFIRMED THAT THE SOLDIER'S PATROL WAS AMBUSHED FRIDAY WHILE RETURNING TO BASE, BUT SAID THE AU DID NOT HAVE ANY INFORMATION ON THE IDENTITY OF THE ATTACKERS.
