UNIDENTIFIED ARMED MEN KILLED AN IRAQI POLICE
OFFICER DURING A SHOOTOUT IN CENTRAL FALLUJAH, 70 KILOMETRES WEST OF
BAGHDAD, ON THURSDAY WHILE FOUR INSURGENTS WERE ALSO KILLED IN THE
CLASH, DPA REPORTED.
A SECURITY SOURCE FROM THE FALLUJAH POLICE DEPARTMENT SAID THAT
POLICE CAPTAIN AHMAD ABDEL MONEIM AL ZUBAEI WAS KILLED WHEN HIS HOME
WAS ATTACKED BY A LARGE GROUP OF INSURGENTS FIRING MORTAR ROUNDS AND
ROCKET PROPELLED GRENADES.
AL ZUBAEI'S FAMILY MEMBERS RETURNED FIRE ON THE INSURGENTS AND
KILLED FOUR OF THEM, ADDED THE SOURCE.
IT IS BELIEVED THAT AL ZUBAEI WAS TARGETED BECAUSE HE WAS AN
OFFICIAL AT THE INTERIOR MINISTRY.
