A FIRE BROKE OUT SUNDAY AT A
NIGHTCLUB IN THE THAI RESORT TOWN OF PATTAYA, KILLING AT
LEAST SEVEN AND INJURING 49, POLICE SAID, ACCORDING TO AP.
OTHERS MAY BE TRAPPED INSIDE THE ROUTE 999 NIGHTCLUB, SAID
POLICE OFFICER MAJ. GEN. ANAND CHAROENCHASI.
A PRELIMINARY INVESTIGATION SHOWED NO FOREIGNERS AMONG THE
DEAD OR INJURED.
«THE FIRE BROKE OUT AT ABOUT 9:30 P.M. (1430 GMT) AT THAT
TIME, THE DISCOTHEQUE HAD NOT OPENED FOR CUSTOMERS, SO MOST
OF THE PEOPLE WHO DIED AND WERE INJURED ARE STAFF AND
EMPLOYEES OF THE DISCOTHEQUE,» ANAND SAID.
