THE EU AND THE US ALONG WITH JAPAN ARE TO WORK OUT A PEACE PLAN FOR SRI LANKA IN A BID TO PREVENT THE OUTBREAK OF CIVIL WAR IN THE COUNTRY, REPRESENTATIVES OF THE THREE SIDES SAID FRIDAY, DPA REPORTED. THE ANNOUNCEMENT CAME AS EU DELEGATES MET WITH US, JAPANESE AND NORWEGIAN GOVERNMENT REPRESENTATIVES IN OSLO FRIDAY, NORWAY HAS BEEN A MEDIATOR IN THE SRI LANKAN CONFLICT FOR MANY YEARS. THE GROUP CALLED ON THE SRI LANKAN GOVERNMENT AND THE REBEL GROUP, LIBERATION TIGERS OF TAMIL EELAM (LTTE), TO CEASE THEIR INCREASING HOSTILITIES. NORWAY'S DEVELOPMENT AID MINISTER, ERIK SOLHEIM, WHO HAS PERSONALLY WORKED AS A MEDIATOR BETWEEN THE GOVERNMENT IN COLOMBO AND THE LTTE REBELS, SCHEDULED ANOTHER MEETING FOR THE END OF MAY IN TOKYO AT WHICH THE PEACE PLAN WILL BE ADOPTED.
