The government of Sri Lanka and rebels of the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) have agreed to meet to discuss how to shore up a ceasefire agreement brokered by Norway, the Norwegian Foreign Ministry said in a statement carried by dpa on Wednesday. The meeting would "consider practical ways of improving the implementation of the Ceasefire Agreement," the Foreign Ministry said, adding the agreement had been "seriously undermined by violence over recent months". After consultations with the parties, Norway said the meeting would be held "shortly" at Colombo International Airport. Foreign Minister Jan Petersen would also meet in New York later this month with representatives of the United States, the European Union, and Japan to assess the security situation in Sri Lanka. --SP 2330 Local Time 2030 GMT
