THE UN SECURITY COUNCIL ON TUESDAY IMPOSED SANCTIONS AGAINST FOUR SUDANESE OFFICIALS ACCUSED OF IMPEDING THE PEACE PROCESS IN SUDAN'S DARFUR REGION according to dpa. THE COUNCIL ADOPTED A RESOLUTION ORDERING A TRAVEL BAN AND FREEZE OF ASSETS ON THE FOLLOWING FOUR SUDANESE: --MAJOR GENERAL GAFFAR MOHAMED ELHASSAN, COMMANDER OF THE SUDANESE AIR FORCE IN SUDAN'S WESTERN MILITARY REGION; --SHEIKH MUSA HILAL, CHIEF OF THE JALUL TRIBE IN NORTHERN DARFUR; --ADAM YACUB SHANT, SUDANESE LIBERATION ARMY COMMANDER; AND --GABRIL ABDUL KAREEM BADRI, FIELD COMMANDER OF THE NATIONAL MOVEMENT FOR REFORM AND DEVELOPMENT. THE COUNCIL VOTED 12-0, WITH THREE ABSTENTIONS, TO ADOPT THE SANCTIONS AGAINST THE FOUR OFFICIALS. CHINA, RUSSIA AND QATAR ABSTAINED.
