The Security Spokesman at the Ministry of Interior stated that a training exercise was carried out today at the local Qurayat airport, northern Saudi Arabia, to simulate dealing with a hijacking of an MD-90 airplane carrying 50 passengers and 6 crew members as part of a training program to deal with such cases and develop efficiency of work and readiness in a constant manner for the team in charge of dealing with airplane hijackings in the kingdom's airports. The simulated exercise included carrying out supposed negotiations with the hijackers, efforts to rescue the passengers and work to protect passengers, crew members, the plane and installations. The emergency teams at the airport, including ambulances, fire brigades, medical services and other administrative support teams, carried out the simulated exercise skillfully realizing the desired goals.
