U.S. airplane manufacturer Boeing said it has received an order for its planes from General Electric's Commercial Aviation Services (GECAS) that could potentially be worth $4 billion. The GE financing and leasing division wants 30 of Boeing's next generation 737 airplanes delivered between 2008 through 2010, and has agreed to an optional supplement of 30 planes after that. John Feren, vice president of Leasing and Asset Management for Boeing Commercial Airplanes, said the GECAS order was indicative of the popularity of Boeing's next generation 737. With the latest contract, GECAS has ordered 68 737s in the past two years, and 333 commercial aircraft planes from Boeing in the last decade.
