Boeing co., the world's second- largest aircraft maker, took orders and letters of intent for 40 new aircraft on Tuesday, bringing to 60 the number of possible new orders announced this week, dpa reported. The new orders would amount to about 8.5 billion dollars in new business for Boeing, dpa reported. The newest order came from the U.S.-based General Electric Commercial Aviation Services (GECAS), which placed a hefty order for 20 new 737 narrow-body jets worth 1.1 billion dollars, the company said Tuesday in the U.S. Earlier Tuesday at the Paris Air Show at Le Bourget, Boeing announced that India's Jet Airways has signed a letter of intent to purchase 10 Boeing 777 aircraft and 10 737s. A Boeing spokesman said that the deal is worth 2.8 billion dollars, according to the catalogue prices of the planes. The letter of intent also contained an option to purchase another 10 long-haul 777s, Boeing said in a statement. On Monday, Qatar Airways said it would purchase 20 Boeing widebody 777s, worth 4.6 billion dollars, according to Bloomberg financial news service. --More 2328 Local Time 2028 GMT
