Pakistan successfully test-fired indigenously developed cruise missile, Babar Hatif-VII, capable of carrying nuclear warheads, on Tuesday, Pakistan military said in a statement. The missile was capable of carrying all types of warheads and had a range of 500 km, the statement issued by the Inter Services Public Relations (ISPR) said. This was the second successful test of this cruise missile by Pakistan. The earlier test was carried out in August last. President Pervez Musharraf witnessed the missile test-fire, and said it demonstrated Pakistan's proficiency in weapons production. He said the government would continue to provide all support in fortifying national defense. The president and Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz congratulated the team of scientists, Pakistan Army and the nation on successful test of cruise missile. "All phases of the planned trajectory were extremely successful and the missile impacted with pinpoint accuracy," the statement said. It added that the cruise missile could be fired from various platforms, including ground positions, surface ships and submarines. According to the statement, the Babur, which has near stealth capabilities, is a low-flying, terrain-hugging missile with high maneuverability, pinpoint accuracy and radar avoidance features.
