Nigeria and Liberia began discussions on Wednesday on the fate of former Liberian president, Charles Taylor, who has been living in exile in Nigeria since August 2003, according to DPA. "Nigeria and Liberia are working jointly to arrive at a decision on the Charles Taylor issue," Nigerian Information Minister, Frank Nweke, said after Wednesday's cabinet meeting. Taylor is wanted in Sierra Leone by the UN War Crimes Tribunal for offences committed while in office from 1997 to 2003. The Nigerian government has insisted, however, that it will only release the former Liberian president if requested to do so by an elected Liberian government. Nigeria took Taylor into exile following agreements reached between it and the international community, the Economic Community of West African States and the African Union, to pave the way for stability and the peaceful conduct of elections in the erstwhile troubled West African country
