Pakistan and Italy have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to promote bilateral cooperation in scientific and technological fields, said an official statement. Higher Education Commission Chairman Dr Attaur Rehman and Minister for Education, University and Research Government of Italy Letizia Morotti signed the MoU. Both parties agreed to cooperate in the fields of scientific and technological research, research centers and public and private institutions of the two countries. The MoU seeks to promote specific bilateral cooperation activities in scientific and technical fields jointly selected and targeted towards technological innovation and industrial appliances. These include Material Sciences and metallurgy, plasma physics, Applied Mathematics, Grid Technologies Neuro-Informatics, Disaster prevention and Agro and Food technologies. The MoU states that both parties will endeavor to promote and support the development of scientific and technological joint projects aimed at promoting innovation to encourage the establishment of a joint Research Centre. The parties will support and encourage the participation of Pakistani students in post Doctoral programmes in Italian Centers of Excellence. The MoU will be executed by means of a joint working group open also to the scientists and experts from two-sides.
