Dr. Abdullah Al-Rabeeah, Head of the Multidisciplinary team, stated today that 48 hours after their successful separation , the Moroccan conjoined twins Hafsah and Elham have now stabilized enough to have the respirators removed. They are both breathing normally without any support. It is worth mentioning that both twins have completely woken up from the anesthesia, opened their eyes and recognized their mother with a smile and a cry. As stated previously all vital organs including heart, lungs and kidneys are stable. Their bowels have started to function gradually, and they are expected to commence bottle feeding within a day or two. Dr. Abdullah Al-Rabeeah also stated that the condition of their wounds and skin are excellent with no signs of infection or complications. Hafsah and Elham are expected to stay in the Pediatrics Intensive Care Unit for another week.
