The General Secretariat of the Arab Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) released a report yesterday on the joint efforts and achievements between the Gulf countries in the field of agriculture and water for 2005. In the area of animal resources, agriculture and health ministers held a consultative meeting on Nov. 16, 2005 to coordinate their efforts against bird flu and agreed on preventive measures and a unified emergency plan. Meanwhile, they unified the fees for the services provided at the veterinary quarantine, and completed the regulations for the transport of race animals between Gulf countries. The ministers prepared the draft agreement between the Gulf countries and the primary countries from which live animals and their products are imported, which will be discussed in their next meeting as well as the draft for the unified system of registering companies of veterinary products. In agriculture, the two executive bylaws for the insecticide and fertilizer systems were completed and will be reviewed by the agricultural policies and systems committee, Arab News reported. In the area of water resources, the members agreed to form a committee of specialists working in desalination to identify the research priorities related to desalination and ways of financing, following and implementing it.
