Russian rescue workers said on Friday they had given up hope of finding anyone else alive under the rubble of a Moscow market roof that collapsed after days of heavy snow, killing 58 people. The death toll rose by one after a man who had been pulled from the wreckage of the Basmanny market in eastern Moscow died in hospital from his injuries, the Emergencies Ministry said, according to Reuters. About 20 people were still being treated in hospital. Rescue workers who had been searching with dogs in the hope of finding trapped survivors were ordered to stop and replaced by excavators who set to work clearing the site. "We think it is very unlikely that anyone else will be found (alive)," an Emergencies Ministry official told Reuters. Officials said they believed the roof gave way early on Thursday morning under the weight of snow piled up on it -- an echo of the collapse last month of a snow-laden roof near Katowice in Poland that killed 66 people at an exhibition. --SP 22 11 Local Time 19 11 GMT
