Russian President Vladimir Putin has sent a "personal letter" to Poland's new conservative President Lech Kaczynski outlining a roadmap for improved bilateral relations, Putin's senior aide Sergei Yastrzhembsky confirmed Monday in Warsaw, according to DPA. "I hope we will take certain actions which will bring a change in the atmosphere of Polish-Russian relations," Yastrzhembsky said following a day of talks with Kaczynski and Poland's foreign minister. A meeting between the Polish and Russian heads of state aimed at refreshing stale ties was closer, but it was still too soon to name dates, Yastrzhembsky said. A spokesman for Kaczynski described Yastrzhembsky's visit as "historic". The visit comes on the heels of several conciliatory comments made by Russian President Vladimir Putin towards Poland since Kaczynski became head of state in December. The Polish leader has also insisted there are no "objective reasons" why bilateral relations with Russia should not be good.
