Dr Abdullah Al-Turki, the Secretary General of Makkah-based Muslim World League (MWL), received here today Danish ambassador to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia Hans Klingenberg. They reviewed the impact of publishing caricatures of Prophet Mohammed ( peace be upon him) by a Danish newspaper (Jyllands-Posten). Dr Al-Turki informed the ambassador that the MWL, through its contacts with the Islamic societies and centers around the world, has been receiving reactions of that development, and it has been evaluating that reactions. He made it clear that publishing cartoons of the Prophet might lead to undermining relations with Muslims, and might also fuel the struggle of nations and dispute among followers of different civilizations and cultures. Dr Al-Turki reiterated the opposition of the MWL to the struggle of nations, and called for taking practical measures for tackling the adverse impact of publishing the cartoons of the Prophet. He said announcing apology by the Danish newspaper which printed the cartoons would be a positive development, 'but we should take into account that the impact of that development has spread throughout the world'. On his part, the Danish ambassador expressed appreciation for the clarifications made by Dr Al-Turki, and said he will convey this to his government. The ambassador said the Danish newspaper realizing the adverse impact of publishing cartoons of the Prophet has announced apology in newspapers. He noted that the publication of cartoons has been condemned by the European organizations and the UN, adding that certain legal measures will be taken in this respect in Denmark in the light of the Danish law and the European law.
