Saudi Aramco has recently been awarded a patent certificate by the US Patent and Trademarks Bureau for an invention by one of its employees that constitutes a new analytic method meeting the company's needs to find a developed way to test samples of anti-corrosion materials in gas flows. For years, Aramco managed to protect gas pipes from erosion by injecting them with anti-erosion materials as sour gas flowing in the pipelines contains acidic and moist gases that cause interior erosion of the pipes and equipment. Traditionally, Aramco takes samples of gas to gauge the level of condensation of those materials in sour gas passing through the pipelines. The new invention supports testing activities and assures the safety of gas supply means in the company's industrialized utilities. The recent patent certificate brings to 50 the number of patent certificates awarded to Aramco by international patent houses. Last year, Aramco won 15 patent certificates.
