The Organization of the Islamic Conference (OIC), the United Nations (UN) and the European union (EU) have expressed alarm over the repercussions of publication of caricatures of the Prophet Mohammed (peace be on him), by a Danish newspaper and their re-publication by some other European newspapers. A joint statement issued Tuesday by OIC's secretary general Ekmeleddin Ihsanoglu, the UN secretary general Kofi Annan and EU foreign policy chief Javier Solana said 'all societies and individuals who are aware of the sensitivity of attacking the deep-rooted religious beliefs share the Muslims their fury caused by publishing the heinous cartoons'. The statement said in all societies there is a need to show sensitivity and responsibility in treating issues of special significance for the adherents of any particular religion, even by those who don't share the belief. --MORE 11 58 Local Time 08 58 GMT
