Iraqi police and U.S. troops killed three gunmen in clashes Sunday near the northern city of Kirkuk, an Iraqi police source said while the U.S. military reported two soldiers dead in Baghdad, according to DPA. A gunman was arrested in clashes to the south-east of Kirkuk in northern Iraq and light weaponry was seized, a source said. The U.S. military's press office in Baghdad was unable to immediately confirm the involvement of its personnel in the clashes and it was not clear where the detainee had been taken. Two U.S. soldiers were killed Saturday by roadside bombs in Baghdad, the U.S. military reported. Three people were killed and 15 injured in two bomb attacks targeting churches that occurred within minutes of each other in Kirkuk, Iraqi police said. The first blast near an Orthodox church was caused by a car bomb and occurred in the city centre near the headquarters of the Kurdish Democratic Party and that of the Kurdish National Movement at 4:55 p.m. local time (13:55 GMT). The second blast was caused by a car bomb and was triggered by remote control 10 minutes later in the northern part of the city near a church. At least 10 civilians were killed and three injured in an attack on a pastry shop in the central Iraqi town of Iskandariya on Saturday, police said. It remained unclear why the shop had been targeted.
