A town mayor was killed in the northern Philippines while watching a basketball game in a public park, police said Saturday, according to DPA. Ysrael Bernos, mayor of La Paz in Abra province, 330 kilometres north of Manila, was shot to death in the head late Friday by a lone gunman who mingled with the crowd watching the game. After shooting the 30-year-old mayor, the gunman fired two shots in the air, causing panic among the crowd, and escaped. Investigators were trying to determine the motive behind the killing. The victim's wife said it may have been politically motivated.
