The Official Security Spokesman of the Ministry of Interior Major General Eng. Mansour bin Sultan Al-Turki stated that stumbling and scrambling among pilgrims at the entrance of the eastern Jamarat (Stoning) Bridge here today led to the killing and injuring of a number of pilgrims. He pointed out that the fall of a large volume of mobile luggage carried by pilgrims, insistence of a large number of pilgrims to stone at noon and their hurrying up to perform stoning rituals led to the incident. Security forces started their tasks to control the situation and they cordoned off the area to rescue and provide aid for pilgrims who fell in the site. Rescue works are still underway and a statement will be issued later, the Spokesman said.
