President Omar Al-Basher adorned Dr Abdullah al-Turki, the Secretary-General of the Makkah-based Muslim World League (MWL), the golden medal of science and arts in recognition of his significant role in the service of Islam at a ceremony organized here on Saturday evening. The ceremony was attended by a number of Sudanese ministers and members of the Islamic diplomatic corps. Meanwhile, four other Islamic personalities were awarded medals of science and arts in recognition of their remarkable efforts in the fields of sciences and arts. They included Dr al-Turki Abdulaziz bin Saud al-Babitein (Kuwait); Dr Wahba al-Zuheili (Syria), who is a member of the Islamic jurisprudence commission at the MWL; Dr Zaghloul Raghib al-Najjar (Iraq), who is a member of the scientific miracle commission at the MWL, and Dr Imaduddin Khalil (Iraq). Speaking on the occasion, Dr Al-Turki highlighted the efforts being exerted by Sudan to confront the current challenges. Warning against disunity of Muslims, Dr Al-Turki hailed the call of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Abdullah bin Abdulaziz to convene the extraordinary Islamic Summit in Makkah. 'Islam is the message of mercy, and it is the duty of Muslims to work for the spread of Islam peacefully and wisely', he added.
