Poland's new conservative Law and Justice (PiS) President Lech Kaczynski has approved a government decision to keep troops in Iraq until the end of 2006, PiS Prime Minister Kazimierz Marcinkiewicz said Thursday. "The deal is closed and done," Marcinkiewicz told Poland's commercial TVN 24 news channel in a statement carried by DPA. President Kaczynski had signed all the documents required to expend Poland's mission in Iraq by a year, the premier added. Poland's previous left-wing Democratic Left Alliance (SLD)government, which lost power in September's parliamentary election, had announced a pull-out by the end of 2005. Poland's contingent in Iraq will be cut to 900 troops from the current 1,450 by March, according to the new conservative PiS government's plan. The remaining Poles will train Iraqi security forces in the country's south-central zone currently under Polish command. --More 21 51 Local Time 18 51 GMT
