Highlighting the preparations for holding the 3rd Extraordinary Islamic summit, Akmaluddin Ihsan Uglu, the Secretary General of the Organization of Islamic Conference (OIC), described the meeting scheduled for Makkah on Wednesday as a glimpse of hope for the Muslim nation as it reflects the admission of its leaders that it was passing a critical time. In a press conference at the headquarters of OIC today, Uglu said the critical situation facing the Islamic nation had its shadows on the preparations for the summit, citing the keenness of OIC officials and representatives of the member states to forge serious recommendations and decisions. He noted that the Secretariat General has conducted a report on Makkah Symposium which was convened upon invitation from the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Abdullah bin Abdulaziz for the first time in the history of OIC. More than 100 intellectuals and scholars in different political, economic and social fields attended the event, he added. He said the symposium issued very important recommendations which will be tackled, in addition to a report submitted by the ad hoc VIP committee composed by the Malaysia Islamic summit, by the foreign ministers tomorrow and the summit after tomorrow. --More 2227 Local Time 1927 GMT
