ON-DON, Russia, Dec 5, SPA -- Militants opened fire on a military convoy in southern Chechnya, killing one Russian soldier and wounding two more, the Interior Ministry said Monday. The attack occurred Sunday in the Itum-Kale region of Chechnya, which borders on the former Soviet republic of Georgia. Also Sunday, three alleged Chechen rebels were killed during a special operation, said Ruslan Atsayev, spokesman for the Interior Ministry's Chechen department. Chechen police killed the suspects after surrounding them in a private house in the northern Gudermes region, the Associated Press reported.
