Malaysia Prime Minister Abdullah Ahmad Badawi will lead the Malaysian delegation to the 3rd Extraordinary Islamic Summit Conference scheduled to begin its three-day deliberations in Makkah, Saudi Arabia. Badawi is also the current chairman of the Organization of the Islamic Conference (OIC). A Foreign Ministry statement here says that the summit will be preceded by the preparatory meeting of the OIC Foreign Ministers on Dec 6. The primary issue that the summit will address concerns Muslim unity and the need to have joint actions to enable the Ummah to face the challenges of the 21st century, according to a report of Malaysian news agency "Bernama." The summit is expected to issue the Makkah Declaration and the OIC Ten Year Programme of Action that will provide a new vision and mission for the OIC to undertake joint actions to empower the Ummah, the statement added. The reform and restructuring of the OIC system, including the General Secretariat, will also be discussed to ensure an effective and relevant organization that represents one fifth of the global population.
