Twelve inmates escaped from a jail in a northern Philippine city on Friday, a Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP) official said. Senior Superintendent Dionisio Mamaril, a regional BJMP director, said the prisoners escaped before dawn from the district jail in Olongapo City, 90 kilometres north of Manila. Mamaril said the escapees destroyed their detention cell's wooden ceiling and aluminum roof to get out. They then crossed over to the roof of the adjacent women's detention centre and used lumber as a bridge to cross over the facility's fence. Jail officials were still investigating the incident, but have already recommended the immediate relief of the four guards on duty at the time of the escape. Police and BJMP forces have formed a team to go after the escapees. --SP 2332 Local Time 2032 GMT
