Atlantic tropical storm Delta continued to ravage the Canary Islands causing the death of a 63-year-old man in Fuerteventura who is believed to have fallen from the roof of his house, dpa quoted authorities as saying Tuesday. Officials said some 300,000 homes on the archipelago were without power or telephone, while the mobile telephone network was also down in many areas. Residents have been urged to stay at home during the storm, which was carrying winds of up to 120 kilometres per hour. The latest storm death follows the capsizing Monday of a boat carrying would-be migrants from Africa some 400 kilometres off the Canaries' coast, killing at least six. Twelve migrants remained missing Tuesday. Some 32 were plucked from the water by a coast guard vessel and helicopter. Delta is the 25th storm of a record Atlantic hurricane season. It was formed over the sea and remained stationary south of the Azores Islands before moving towards the Canaries.
