At least 17 people were feared drowned after an overloaded motorboat sank in southern Chile, officials said Monday, according to DPA. Six bodies had been found and another 11 were missing after the boat sank in Lake Maihue on Sunday, and there was little hope of still finding survivors, the official said. The boat, licensed to carry 16 people, sank Sunday with 33 people on board - including many students from a boarding school who were on the way back after a weekend outing. Media reports indicated the remaining 16 people on board were rescued. Rescue helicopters, divers and planes were on alert in the region, about 900 kilometres south of the capital Santiago, awaiting the passage of bad weather to continue rescue efforts.
