Algerian President Abdelaziz Bouteflika remained hospitalized in Paris for a third day of tests Monday after flying to France with a gastrointestinal problem, the North African nation's embassy said. An embassy official in Paris said doctors had not yet released any test results and declined to confirm the expected length of Bouteflika's stay at Val de Grace military hospital. The official said she had no update or details on the president's condition. Bouteflika, 68, was initially admitted to an Algiers hospital Saturday morning with "gastrointestinal troubles," and doctors there advised him to be flown to Paris for more thorough medical examinations, a statement from his office said. The statement said Algerian doctors felt the president's condition was "not a source of concern." Bouteflika was re-elected for a second term in office in April 2004. The Associated Press quoted Government aides as saying that this was his first hospitalization since he took office in 1999.
