The Foreign Ministry organized here today a lecture by Director General of the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons Ambassador Rogelio Pfirter. In a speech welcoming Ambassador Pfirter, Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Dr. Nizar bin Obaid Madanai underlined Saudi efforts in the anti-chemical weapons field and called for freeing the Middle East from all weapons of mass destruction. In a similar speech, Prince Dr. Turki bin Mohammad bin Saud Alkabeer, Assistant Undersecretary of the Foreign Ministry for Political Affairs, underscored Saudi efforts to comply with the treaty banning chemical weapons and detailed Saudi measures to implement the treaty. In his speech, Ambassador Pfirter lauded Saudi Arabia's great efforts to fight and ban chemical weapons. He spoke in length about the aims of the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons and its cooperation with Saudi Arabia in this field. He also detailed efforts to ban chemical weapons worldwide.
