The UN Secretary-General, Kofi Annan arrived in Pakistan Thursday to attend an International Donors Conference in Islamabad Saturday and to visit the quake affected areas in Azad Jammu and Kashmir and North West Frontier Province (NWFP), officials said. Annan would discuss with President General Pervez Musharraf and Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz the ongoing relief and rescue efforts, besides sharing thoughts on the long term reconstruction effort of the devastated areas, before the donor's conference. During his three-day visit, the UN Chief will visit Muzaffarabad along with his wife to see the relief operations by the United Nations, NGOs and international organizations, along with those by Pakistan Army. The October 8 earthquake caused deaths of more than 73,000 people with around 70,000 people seriously injured and 3.5 million rendered homeless. Prior to his arrival in Islamabad, the Secretary-General visited Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Jordan, Kuwait, Iraq and Tunisia.
