A swarm of five small to moderate earthquakes rattled central New Zealand in the space of 15 hours, the Institute of Geological and Nuclear Sciences (IGNS) reported Wednesday, according to DPA. The latest, which measured 3.2 on the Richter scale, hit at 1:30 a.m. (1230 GMT Tuesday), the institute said, warning that the swarm might continue for several days. All were centred near the South Island township of Seddon, about 60 kilometres southwest of the capital Wellington at the foot of the North Island on the other side of Cook Strait. The largest, with a magnitude of 4.8, struck Tuesday evening. There have been no reports of injury or damage.
