Uganda is offering to deploy troops in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) to help local and U.N. forces fight Lords Resistance Army (LRA) guerillas, Uganda's Foreign Minister Sam Kutesa said Thursday, according to DPA. Kutesa told a tri-partite meeting of foreign and defence ministers from the DRC, Rwanda, Burundi and officials from MONUC, the U.N. peace mission in DRC, that LRA rebels would not be disarmed unless the Ugandan army got involved. "In view of this, we recommend the idea of joint operations between Uganda and the DRC armed forces with the involvement of MONUC to deal with this group. We should operate jointly because of our accumulated knowledge and experience with the LRA, without our involvement this problem will not be solved," he said.
