The British government is to give an extra 10 million pounds (18 million dollars) to help survivors of the South Asia earthquake, Prime Minister Tony Blair said Wednesday, according to DPA. The new funds would increase British government aid for the victims of the quake to 12 million pounds. Britain would also be sending helicopters to Pakistan and Kashmir to ensure that aid and relief can reach the worst affected areas. The British public pledged 2 million pounds in the first 24 hours of a co-ordinated appeal by U.K. charities. British trucks with 1,000 tents and 10,000 tarpaulins are on the way from Lahore to the stricken areas.
