VeriSign Inc. rose about a percent to $20.23 after Internet auctioneer eBay Inc. said on Monday it would buy VeriSign's payment-processing business. Shares of eBay slipped by almost 1 percent to $40.07 on Nasdaq.
RealNetworks Inc. rose 8 percent to $6.20 after Microsoft Corp. said it would pay $761 million to settle an antitrust dispute with the Internet media software company. Microsoft shares slipped a half a percent to $24.33.
In other chip maker news, SigmaTel Inc. dropped 14 percent to $14.79 on Nasdaq after warning on Monday its third-quarter profit would miss forecasts. SigmaTel supplies memory chips for Apple Ipod Shuffles.
