French Interior Minister Nicolas Sarkozy was to meet Monday with his British counterpart Home Secretary Charles Clarke to discuss greater cooperation on issues such as international terrorism and immigration, officials said. The French Embassy in London said Sarkozy would also meet with Britain's Work and Pensions Secretary David Blunkett, and Chancellor of the Exchequer Gordon Brown, who is widely expected to succeed Tony Blair as prime minister before the next election, which must be held in 2010 at the latest. Sarkozy is regarded as a potential candidate for France's 2007 presidential election, the Associated Press reported.
