China sent a 49-member rescue team to Pakistan on Sunday to aid victims of the massive earthquake that struck Saturday, the government said. The team is made up of officials from China's Seismological Bureau, an engineering unit of the People's Liberation Army and the General Hospital of the Armed Police, the official Xinhua News Agency said. The team is equipped with probing, demolition and first-aid equipment, as well as search dogs and rescue vehicles, it said. On Saturday, Chinese President Hu Jintao sent condolences to Pakistan's President Gen. Pervez Musharraf, expressing "deep grief" over those killed in the disaster, Xinhua said. The death toll from Saturday's magnitude 7.6 quake that struck Pakistan, India and Afghanistan was at least 18,300 on Sunday.
