Spanish and Moroccan forces repelled a new assault by up to 1,500 African migrants on Spain's North African enclave of Melilla on Thursday, police said, according to Reuters. An unknown number of immigrants and police were injured in the third attempt this week to storm the razor-wire fences around the outpost, a police spokesman said. But this time migrants failed to get through, he added. "There's been an assault which has been repelled by Moroccan and Spanish forces. Noone got in," the spokesman said. The new attempt came hours after Spain announced extraordinary measures to deter migrants -- mostly from west Africa -- from storming Melilla and its sister enclave, Ceuta. The outposts hold a powerful attraction for poor migrants which see them as a way to get into wealthy Europe.
