The government appointed Tuesday a new chief of Lebanon's main security agency, The Associated Press reported. The Cabinet appointed Brig. Gen. Wafiq Jizzini, an army officer, as the new head of the Interior Ministry's General Security Department. He replaced Maj. Gen. Jamil Sayyed, who resigned in April and was arrested in Aug. 30 after being implicated with three other top generals in the Feb. 14 assassination of former Premier Rafik Hariri. Information Minister Ghazi al-Aridi told reporters after a Cabinet meeting that the plan to revamp the security security services would be discussed later.
