Dubai International Airport recorded a 15 per cent increase in passengers by the end of the third quarter of this year. The number of passengers exceeded 18.8 million compared with 16.3 million during the corresponding period last year, according to a report in Gulf News. There was also a hike in cargo operations, which increased by 25 per cent in the past nine months. The number of passengers is expected to reach 25 million and cargo operations may reach 1.5 million tonnes by the end of this year. "This positive performance took place although the airport is under external and internal expansions," said Mohammad Ahli, director of operations in the Department of Civil Aviation. "The department will not decrease the fees of cargo and handling for airline companies, which have not changed since 1975," the official said.
