Two police officers were killed Friday when another officer went on a shooting rampage inside an airport compound in the southern Philippines, an official said. Police Superintendent Honorio Cervantes said the victims were the chief and deputy chief of the aviation security group in the Lumbia Airport in Cagayan de Oro City, 810 kilometres south of Manila, DPA reported. The shooting took place inside the security group's barracks inside the airport, causing some people to panic over fears of a terrorist attack. "The suspect was also a member of the aviation security group," Cervantes said. "Apparently, he ran amok when he was handed a transfer order to the Butuan City airport." Cervantes said the suspect, Police Officer 1 Zenon Madrial Jr., was wounded in the incident, but it was not yet clear who or how he was shot. "We are still investigating," Cervantes said. Security forces at Philippine airports have been on stepped-up alert over warnings that the facilities are possible targets of terrorists planning attacks in the country.
