A U.S. Air Force officer has been killed and two airmen injured in a road accident while taking part in the biennial Bright Star maneuvers in northern Egypt, a spokesman for the U.S. military said Tuesday. The three U.S. servicemen were in a car on the El Alamein highway west of Alexandria when the accident occurred Monday, said Capt. Scott Betts of the U.S. Army. Their names were not released because next of kin have not yet been informed, The Associated Press reported. About 16,000 troops from 14 countries, mainly the United States and Egypt, are taking part in the Bright Star exercise, which aims to share tactics and increase security cooperation among allies in the Middle East. The three-week maneuvers end Oct. 3.
